Lyrical is taught to the students at AJL Dance Studio once they have completed Mimes and Rose Awards and they are in Preparatory Ballet, Modern and Tap. Lyrical is a style of dance that combines ballet, modern and contemporary dance. Lyrical inspires strong emotions through the use of movement and the music. Following a programme of study, students will learn the style of lyrical and how to adapt technique already learned in Ballet and Modern. Lyrical will inspire our students to add feelings and emotions into their work. In Lyrical, female students have use of a skirt that is used as part of the movements and adds to the feeling of lyrical as a whole.

Students will use what they learn in Lyrical in a dance in the annual show. Choreographed by Miss Amanda, this will draw on everything they have learnt in class. Previous lyrical dances that have been done in the show are Disney’s ‘Lion King’, ‘Colours of the Wind’, ‘A Whole New World’ and most recently, ‘Wings’. These dances are emotional performances that showcase the work and grades completed by students.

Lyrical classes are held on a Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays dependant on the age and level of the student.
